Some ulcers can heal on their own, while others may require medical treatment to prevent serious complications.
TYPES OF ULCERS
According to the publication by Healthline, the following are the different types of ulcers;
1- ARTERIAL ULCERS
Arterial ulcers are the type of ulcers that develop on the smaller side of arterioles and capillaries which are mostly found around the ankle, feet, toes, heels, etc. This happens when there is damage to the arteries due to lack of blood flow. Their Symptoms include the following;
- Red, yellow, or black sores
- Hairless skin
- Leg pain
- No bleeding
2- VENOUS ULCERS
Venous ulcers occur when there is a damage to the veins which is caused by insufficient blood flow back to the heart. It causes open wounds that often form on your leg, below your knee and on the inner area of your ankle.
It's symptoms includes the following;
- Inflammation
- Swelling
- Itchy skin
- Scabbing
- Discharge
3- PEPTIC ULCERS
This type of ulcer forms when the digestive juices damage the walls of the stomach or intestine. They are very common and are caused by Helicobacter pylori bacteria or the long term use of Nonsteroidal Anti-inflammatory Drugs (NSAIDs). They often occur in the following places;
- The inside lining of your stomach
- The upper portion of your small intestine
- The esophagus.
Peptic Ulcers are of 2 types;
1- Gastric ulcers which develops in the stomach lining
2- Duodenum ulcers. They occur in the small intestine. It's Symptoms include the following;
- Burning sensation
- Bloating or the feeling of being full
- Belching
- Heartburn
- Nausea or Vomiting
- Unexplained weight loss
- Chest pain
4- MOUTH ULCERS
These are small sores that develop in the mouth or the base of the gums. They are triggered by the following;
- Stress
- Hormonal changes
- Vitamin deficiencies
- Bacterial infection
5- GENITAL ULCERS
Genital ulcers are sores that develop on the genital areas such as the male and female reproductive organs, anus or surrounding areas. They are often accompanied by;
- Rash or bumps in the affected area
- Pain or itching
- Swollen glands in the genital areas
- Fever
